Superman launches the new DC Universe with a heartfelt and energetic entry that sets the stage for what’s to come. David Corenswet brings warmth and conviction to the role, embodying Superman’s core values of hope, compassion, and the belief in protecting all life. His world, however, is shaken when a revelation about his family challenges his understanding of his purpose on Earth. Meanwhile, classic adversary Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) plots against him, only to be complicated further by the emergence of the Justice Gang—a team of unconventional heroes including Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), and Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi).

The film succeeds in presenting characters who honor their comic origins while adding meaningful changes that strengthen the story and hint at the broader universe ahead. Each member of the ensemble contributes to the forward momentum of the plot, but Superman himself remains the emotional core. This version of the hero is steadfast in his moral compass, willing to sacrifice for others and determined to value every life.

Tonally, James Gunn’s Superman departs significantly from Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. Where Snyder’s film leaned into darker visuals and a heavier, mythic style, Gunn opts for bright colors, a comic book aesthetic, and a message rooted in optimism and heart. The result is a fresh and hopeful reimagining of Superman—one that not only reintroduces the character but also sets a confident and promising foundation for the future of the DC Universe.

Superman is now available On Demand and is still playing in theaters.
